Days to go

About Us

Lighthouse Thame is a holiday week for children and young people in Thame and the surrounding area that takes place in the summer holidays at Lord Williams’s Upper School.

It is run through a partnership of local churches and supported by hundreds of experienced volunteers. Lighthouse provides an opportunity for children and young people to learn more about God’s amazing love for us all and understand what difference Jesus can make to our lives. Our objective is to create a safe, fun and enjoyable environment for everyone.

The Lighthouse format is simple. At the start and finish of each day we gather everyone together in the main marquee forfun activities, competitions, games, songs talks and drama etc. The daily gunging of a leader is always great fun and each day the activities close with some great songs with plenty of actions. For the rest of the day children have a programme of games, craftwork and creative times plus a year-group session to explore the day's theme.

We want everybody to feel welcome and promote the following values:

  • Acceptance
  • Unbounded patience
  • Fair discipline
  • Lots of love
  • And, of course, lots of Fun

Lighthouse Thame

Lighthouse History

Lighthouse was started in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire in 1987 when a group of Christians from local Churches decided to arrange some fun activities for children and young people during the school summer holidays. The event was a resounding success and well over 350 children attended this initial event.

Lighthouse has since gone from strength to strength with thousands of children attending events across the county. Lighthouse Thame was first launched in 2008 in the Thame showground.

Lighthouse Thame operates as Lighthouse88 which is a registered charity no. 1071892

Donations

There is no charge to attend Lighthouse, although we encourage donations of £50 per child per week to help us cover our costs.

Last year our expenditure was around £36,500 and this year with cost increases in some key areas we are expecting it to rise to around £39,000.

Some of the costs are met by local churches and grant organisations, for which we are very grateful.
